Brecciated Serpentinite – Location 8

Sample : Photo location 8
Rock name : Brecciated Serpentinite  (Turner, 1982)

Megascopic description:

Brecciated serpentinite (multiple events) seems to be more intensive. Strong deformed with quartz veins to form somewhat isolated quartz aggregates. Brownish-creamish materials are cementing between broken serpentine.

Microscopic description:

The thin section of serpentinite shows the intensively fracturing to form the brecciated texture that their fractures are filled by carbonate (calcite). The present of spinel and relic mineral with prismatic shape and good cleavage (pyroxene), anhedral to subhedral in shape, up to 3.5 mm in crystals size, it indicated that their protolith is a ultramafic rocks. The foliation structure sometimes present in the some area of thin section that they are formed by the orientation of serpentine minerals..
